Description Frank Daniel 2020-07-26 03:05:38 UTC
I am trying to install Gentoo from the DVD/USB.

As the software loads for the installation, my computer freezes at the line
"Waiting for uevents to be processed"
I left it at this stage for many hours. But it never recovered.
The keyboard at this time is non-responsive.
I have down loaded the image a few times and verified the checksum

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Try to install from Livecd DVD/USB
2.
3.
Actual Results:
Hangs at the line "Waiting for uevents to be processed."

Expected Results:
I should have been able to get to Plasma screen.

What is the Live CD ISO filename you used?
Comment 2 Jonas Stein gentoo-dev 2020-07-29 23:18:33 UTC
Please provide the URL and the checksum of your .iso.

It is sad to read that you have problems with the Live DVD. The situation seems to be a bit more complicate and requires some analysis.
We can not help you efficiently via bug tracker.

I have had very good experience on the gentoo IRC [1] with questions like this. Of course there are also forums and mailing lists [2,3].
I hope you understand, that I will close the bug here therefore and wish you good luck on one of the mentioned channels [4].
Please reopen the ticket in order to provide the required information.

Why are you stepping away. This clearly is an issue with your software! There is no way around it. I tried installing with your install kernel from the DVD image and it failed!
Some one needs to research this. It is NOT going away. The image is from your website. If your NOT going to support it, then why is on your website?

The image is livedvd-amd64-multillib-2016-0704. The same one you've had for years. Which rises the question of why haven't you been keeping it current??

This is very irritating.

Your losing a user and defender.

Please stop closing bug reports like that (and start reading your e-mail).

Most likely what is happening is that a gpu driver like radeon/nouveau/i915 is autoloading but it's not able to work properly with your gpu. Maybe due to missing firmware, or maybe something else.

We should probably stop publishing this ISO since nobody around here wants to update it for new hardware.

Yes, there are lots of various problems with our 4-year-old LiveDVD. And FYI, it was a one-off custom creation by a community member. The official Releng team didn't create it and isn't really able to fix it.

Please use our minimal installcd, or admincd, instead. For now, at least.

What the chances of getting the source code?
I need a large project and I like looking at other people’s code!!
