I've the same problem, with mtv.com and many other sites The firefox window freezes when loading (or reloading) the page but all the other firefox's windows freeze too ! (sometimes with CPU leaks) I've the problem recently, so I think it's related to a recent update. I've never seen this problem before updating my gentoo I'll try to re-merge firefox, to see...

I have the exact same symtoms on firefox 1.0.1. When visiting certain sites (mtv.com ot luukku.com for example) firefox segfaults and kills all open firefox windows. Doesn't seem to be a configuration issue, because this happens on multiple users. Re-emerging firefox has no effect. Update: the crash also occures with firefox-bin, so this shouldn't be a gcc issue as proposed in http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=71809. The debug output from the crash is very similar with an older bug http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=57552, which was closed as a bug in xorg-x11 prior to version 6.8.0-r1. I am using 6.8.0-r4, so there might be something else going on. On the other hand, the debug ouput I got is different from the description of this bug, so I propably should open a new bug.
A fix found for my problem at http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=63918. Fixed by exporting XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1. Silly undocumented variable...
From what i have seen this all comes back to compsite support. If this is still an issue open a new bug report with latest info.
