There are a bunch of packages who can't be bumped to EAPI 7 yet because of this eclass.

On IRC, we discussed whether or not it's worth deprecating it because most of the variables are constant anyway.

Done - but keep in mind that using this eclass with EAPI-7 is exactly as broken as with EAPI-6. That is to say, seemingly usable with some workarounds on the ebuild side but in the end we should really consider getting rid of this eclass.
