The initio kernel driver for the INI 9x00 U/UW series of scsi host adapters is not enabled by default in the kernel, thus meaning it isn't built into the installer's kernel. The driver may be mistakenly tagged as BROKEN, however, it is in no way broken. I spent a few weeks with the linux-scsi development crew making sure of this in the final weeks before 2.6.0-final was released. I have been using the stock kernel driver (without linux-scsi development patches) since 2.6.1 with no problem whatsoever. The lack of this perfectly intact driver makes it impossible for me to install Gentoo. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Boot Gentoo LiveCD 2. Attempt to install to a device attached to an Initio 9x00 SCSI host adapter 3. Punch monitor Actual Results: Trip to E.R. for 18 stiches. Had to dish out for new monitor. Expected Results: Loaded the initio kernel module.
I'll look into it...
Upon further inspection, I've discovered the problem may already be resolved, just waiting for software to cycle. The official kernel Kconfig tags the initio driver as BROKEN in 2.6.9, however that tag does not exist in 2.6.10-rc2. Guess we'll know when 2.6.10 releases.
I added this driver to the new 2.6.10 config which will be used on 2005.0, so enjoy!
As soon as I get a chance to test the new live, I'll post up results :)
This should be fixed in 2005.0
