Description Felix Tiede 2020-07-08 19:24:50 UTC
Using gentoo-sources-5.7* I noticed a strange behavior with one of my USB audio adapters, specifically the one integrated into my Dell WD19TB Thunderbolt dock (HWIDS 0bda:402e).

More close monitoring with the audio player revealed it was not exactly broken, but sound was played at a fraction of its normal speed, making the device essentially unusable.
My other USB audio device, a Jabra headset seemed unaffected by the problem, as well as the system's built-in Intel HDA soundcard.

I went on to bisect the stable kernel repository from git.kernel.org after confirming the problem was absent in sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-5.7.4.

Bisecting ended at commit d288dc74f8cf95cb7ae0aaf245b7128627a49bf3 with precisely this commit causing the issue, confirmed by reverting that commit on the 5.7.7 tag, which fixed the problem for the latest stable release of the linux kernel.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot affected kernel (>=sys-kernel/*-sources-5.7.6)
2. Try to play back audio via WD19TB

Actual Results:
Sound being very very slow, accompanied by very slow forward ticking on the audio player's time indicator.

Expected Results:
Normal sound (and normal time ticking) as with any other sound card.

I guess this actually needs to be fixed upstream, but at this time I don't know how to properly report it there.

Hi, sounds like this is now reverted in 5.7.8

From both Changelog as well as the commit mentioned in the Changelog I do agree, it is "fixed" in 5.7.8, at least the change in question is what my "fix" does.
