Description jeremy 2004-12-01 22:27:35 UTC
Gentoo/AMD64 doc contradicts itself. One page says gcc 3.3.x is deprecated in favor of 3.4, then another page explicitly says to emerge gcc 3.3.4.

Reproducible: Didn't try
Steps to Reproduce:
1. go to http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/base/amd64/technotes.xml?part=2&chap=3 and reda the section titled "gcc 3.3 Officially Deprecated"
2. go to http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/base/amd64/technotes.xml?part=2&chap=4 and read the section titled "4.b. Compiling 32-bit Applications From A 64-bit Environment (using multilib)" notice it says to emerge gcc-3.3.3-r5.

Actual Results:
I see wacky docs that could confuse users.

Expected Results:
Should say to emerge gcc 3.4.x instead in step 2.

At time of writing, GCC 3.4.3 is stable on AMD64. Updating the technotes to reflect this by asking users to emerge GCC without specifying a version - latest stable should always work! Thanks for the report. Bug closed - FIXED.
