Description Alexander Stoll 2020-06-23 18:25:50 UTC
- Tested with sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-5.7.5 and a TL-WN722N

[kernel] ath9k_htc 1-4:1.0: ath9k_htc: HTC initialized with 33 credits
[kernel] ath9k_htc: Failed to initialize the device

no function...

- last known good revision 5.7.2

- upstream commit upstream 5.7.3 introduced various fixes for ath9k and ath9k_htc, seams like a regression

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. use kernel beyond 5.7.2
2. insert USB WLAN Dongle
3. init failed

My two cents.

I was able to reproduce the issue with a USB TP-LINK TL-WN722N as well but with an even older kernel: 5.4.48.

The device is still working with kernel 5.4.38

The issue look's related to this:

this regression was intruduced even in longterm kernels...

I only keep track on the 5.7 version, if you are still affected for current stable, please write a dedicated bug report.

For 5.7 this is resolved a few minors ago. Will close this if no one complains...

regression rolled back by newer minor releases
