Actually I think it's good that the doom3 ebuild can copy the necessary pak files to the appropriate location, but I do think that there should be a way to bypass this behavior. I'd already installed a copy of doom3 and wanted to upgrade, so I had no intention of installing the whole thing all over again. Still that's what I had to do because I wanted to use the ebuild. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. try to update doom3 the new ebuild 2. go get the doom3 box from wherever you put it 3. install the whole damn thing all over again Actual Results: Everything was ok, but a bunch of unnecessary stuff had to be done. Expected Results: The game could have been updated without the cds.
Sorry, but this will not be fixed. How exactly would an ebuild know it is an upgrade? If you do not want it to use the CD every time, then *don't* use USE=cdinstall. It is a pretty simple concept that I plan on extending to all of the CD-based installers to allow upgrades without breaking the non-interactiveness of emerge. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 63703 ***
