Description Mark R. Pariente 2004-11-29 19:10:48 UTC
(~x86) Upgraded to libgnomeprint 2.8.1 and libgnomeprintui 2.8.1, rebooted, to find out that these applications:

- gnumeric
- scalc (ximian openoffice spreadsheet)

wouldn't even start. (Hang with 100% cpu usage). Any other gnome application will start, but will hang (100% cpu, nonresponsive) when "Print preview" is selected (ie. gedit).

I don't have any printers, cups or lpr init scripts are not on my default runlevel. I have verified the problem to be related with cups with strace, the hanged applications hangs with an infinite loop of BROKEN_PIPE error in a write to 127.0.0.1, POST method HTTP call with Content-Type: application/ipp. cups related system calls are invoked before this infinite loop.

Downgrading libgnomeprint + ui to 2.8.0 and rebooting resolves the problem, no hangs.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge libgnomeprint 2.8.1 and libgnomeprintui 2.8.1
2. reboot
3. start gnumeric

Actual Results:
gnumeric hangs, 100% cpu usage.

Expected Results:
gnumeric starts.

Comment 1 Mark R. Pariente 2004-12-07 23:01:20 UTC
Ok, apparently its my fault. emerge'ing libgnomeprint with USE="-cups" fixed the issue. Not a wise idea to have cups in USE flags when not running cupsd I guess.
Comment 2 Mike Gardiner (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-12-08 01:11:48 UTC
Sorry I didn't comment here earlier, I did try to reproduce this on both a ppc and an x86 machine with no luck. I even had USE="cups" and cups not running.

Sorry about this.
