I've removed some duplicated ebuilds that I had installed trusting that revdep-rebuild and emerge -uD world would just install them if they were really needed. Maybe this wasn't a good idea, but I wanted to clean up my system. revdep-rebuild went fine, but I now can't emerge -uD world. It wants to emerge this: [ebuild N ] app-text/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.12 [ebuild NS ] app-text/docbook-xml-dtd-4.1.2-r5 [ebuild N ] app-text/scrollkeeper-0.3.14 [ebuild N ] gnome-base/gnome-desktop-2.8.0 [ebuild N ] dev-libs/libsigc++-1.2.5 [ebuild N ] dev-cpp/gtkmm-2.2.12 [ebuild N ] dev-cpp/gconfmm-2.0.2 [ebuild N ] dev-cpp/libgnomecanvasmm-2.0.1 [ebuild N ] dev-cpp/libglademm-2.0.1 [ebuild N ] dev-cpp/libgnomemm-2.0.1 [ebuild N ] dev-cpp/libgnomeuimm-2.0.0 but it fails to emerge: app-text/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.12 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge -uD world Actual Results: These are just the last error messages, I get more than 1000 lines of errors (the number of lines my console saves), in case you need more information, just ask for it: jade:/usr/share/sgml/docbook/dsssl-stylesheets-1.77/html/../common/../common/dbl1sr.dsl:3:5:E:reference to entity "lat2" for which no system identifier could be generated jade:/usr/share/sgml/docbook/dsssl-stylesheets-1.77/html/../common/../common/dbl1sr.dsl:2:0: entity was defined here jade:/etc/sgml/catalog:1:8:E: cannot open "/etc/sgml/sgml-ent.cat" (No such file or directory) jade:/etc/sgml/catalog:5:8:E: cannot open "/etc/sgml/sgml-lite.cat" (No such file or directory) <<< LOTS OF THESE >>> jade:/etc/sgml/catalog:1:8:E: cannot open "/etc/sgml/sgml-ent.cat" (No such file or directory) jade:/etc/sgml/catalog:5:8:E: cannot open "/etc/sgml/sgml-lite.cat" (No such file or directory) make[2]: *** [backend-spec.html] Error 1 make[2]: *** Waiting for unfinished jobs.... make[2]: *** [fdl.html] Error 1 make[2]: *** [docbook2texi.html] Error 1 make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.12/work/docbook-utils-0.6.12/doc' make: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 !!! Would you remove the line containing "/etc/sgml/sgml-ent.cat" and "/etc/sgml/sgml-lite.cat" from /etc/sgml/catalog and emerge the rest?
Ok, I did it, and the error changed: jade:/usr/share/sgml/docbook/dsssl-stylesheets-1.77/html/../common/../common/dbl1sr.dsl:2:66:W: cannot generate system identifier for public text "ISO 8879:1986//ENTITIES Added Latin 2//EN" jade:/usr/share/sgml/docbook/dsssl-stylesheets-1.77/html/../common/../common/dbl1sr.dsl:3:5:E:reference to entity "lat2" for which no system identifier could be generated jade:/usr/share/sgml/docbook/dsssl-stylesheets-1.77/html/../common/../common/dbl1sr.dsl:2:0: entity was defined here make[2]: *** [api.html] Error 1 make[2]: *** Waiting for unfinished jobs.... make[2]: *** [backend-spec.html] Error 1 make[2]: *** [docbook2texi.html] Error 1 make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.12/work/docbook-utils-0.6.12/doc' make: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 !!! Well, certainly removing things randomly without really knowing the consequences is not a very good idea. You broke your system and at this point you should really try using a clean system before reporting a bug. Nonetheless, I'd recommend that you emerge build-docbook-catalog and run it to see if that helps in your case, if the problem is still relevant.
