Description Christopher Covington 2004-11-28 15:02:26 UTC
When I try to enable the Remote Control plugin for gaim I get the following error:
Unable to open socket
Falied to assign /tmp/gaim_chris.0 to a socket: Address already in use

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Gaim's Preferences, go to the Plugins section
2. Click the check box beside the Remote Control plugin

Actual Results:
A pretty error message pops up displaying the following:
Unable to open socket
Falied to assign /tmp/gaim_chris.0 to a socket: Address already in use

Expected Results:
The gaim-remote should instead be now usable.

Auto-Reconnect, Extended Preferences, Festival, Gaim-Encryption and System Tray
Icon plugins all work fine.

What version of gaim?

For now, shut down gaim, manually remove /tmp/gaim_*.0 and restart. Should work then.

Upstream developers acknowledge they should work around it better.

I'm running gaim version 1.0.3. Deleting /tmp/gaim_* and restarting got it working.
