Description Matteo Settenvini 2004-11-24 11:40:42 UTC
I upgraded Wine from < 20041019 to -r3, and I noticed that apps that use midi don't work anymore. The error they return is "There are no MIDI output devices available on this machine".

I use timitidy++ as software MIDI sequence. Before upgrading everything worked right.

Here's the relevant section of wine config:

[WinMM]
;"Drivers" = "winealsa.drv"
;"Drivers" = "wineoss.drv"
"Drivers" = "winearts.drv"
"WaveMapper" = "msacm.drv"
"MidiMapper" = "midimap.drv"

Also using the other drivers (winealsa and wineoss) doesn't work, while before it did.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Upgrade to latest wine
2. Install a MIDI app. You could use PowerTab Editor for example (http://www.power-tab.net), it really good as a testcase.
3. Try to configure MIDI / play something

Actual Results:
No MIDI.

Expected Results:
Midi works as before.

I can second this. Personally I run only x86 and solved the problem by emerging the wine-20040716.ebuild and then entering 'app-emulation/wine' into /etc/portage/package mask.

I can second this. Personally I emerged wine-20040716.ebuild and put app-emulation/wine in /etc/portage/package.mask

can you try with 20041201 ?
if that fails, can you please report this upstream on winehq's bug tracker ?
Comment 4 Matteo Settenvini 2004-12-07 14:43:51 UTC
ok, still here with 20041201
i'll post a bug on wine bugzilla as soon as i've the time.
please leave this bug open until fixed upstream.
Comment 5 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2005-01-12 17:08:55 UTC
wine-20050111 is now in portage ... does that help at all ? if not, have you had a chance to file a bug upstream yet ?
Comment 6 Matteo Settenvini 2005-01-13 07:20:10 UTC
No, it isn't fixed yet.

Btw, I tried registering to wine bugzilla at least 5 times. Every time it says it'll send me a confirmation email, and i never get it. Ultimately, I got a little annoyed and gave up. I'll try again in these days, but if I'm still unable to get an account, I'll have to ask someone to post this bug for me.
Comment 7 Matteo Settenvini 2005-01-18 12:02:22 UTC
I really cannot access the winebug db, i tried subscribing twice in the last few days (again), but i never get that confirmation email. someone with an account please post it.
Comment 8 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2005-02-12 10:39:24 UTC
still having trouble posting ? if so, i'll file a bug for you ...
Comment 9 Matteo Settenvini 2005-02-13 04:27:47 UTC
I'm sorry, but I really can't get the confirmation email from Winehq Bugzilla. I retried last time today, and my account is present (if I try to register again, it says I can't), but of course I lack of the password to login (since I never got that infamous email).

I would be glad if you can submit the bug.
Again, sorry for the inconvenience, but it doesn't depend upon me.
Comment 10 Matteo Settenvini 2005-03-02 02:13:51 UTC
I noticed that the problem presents itself only if using arts, while for OSS & ALSA everything works okay.
>;"Drivers" = "winealsa.drv"
>;"Drivers" = "wineoss.drv"
>"Drivers" = "winearts.drv"

I didn't see any related bug in WineHQ bugzilla, so if you're gonna report it, please say it's a problem specific of the arts driver.
Many thanks,
Matteo
Comment 11 Mr. Borje Holmberg 2005-03-02 02:29:38 UTC
I have no kde or qt or arts on this box. Just gnome and esd and alsa and gtk.

Still have this problem, but I have not followed up with the eventual recent upgrades, still have wine masked.
