The current eclass man pages are installed via the portage package. However, eclasses can change much faster than portage releases. It would be very beneficial to remove the eclass man pages from the portage package and into a separate package, such as man-portage or man-eclasses.
FULL ACK! :)
Agreed here as well. If this ends up happening, I'd be willing to help maintain. I would go for the latter name, as the former implies portage manual pages as well, and IMO, those should stay with portage.
going to wait for the other eclass bugs to close then i'll do this up ... call it app-portage/portage-manpages
How about eclass-manpages instead? We don't want to separate the portage pages, just the eclass ones.
i'm not moving the portage manpages, just the eclass ones the generic name was in case we wanted to include more stuff than just eclasses
We're they? Merging latest portage version (2.51-r7) blew away my eclass manpages, and I need them asap! Aaaah! <panic>
now in portage
What about updating them regulary? I was searching the check_reqs.eclass man page, but it wasn't there. I hit google and there is one in the gentoo-wiki. Is there a newer version on hold?
bug the maintainer of an eclass to document it
