This is to remind myself to make an ebuild for this when it is released.
It is here: http://www.americasarmy.com/intel/fullstory.php?i=1271
Please... don't *ever* post a 0-day games bug again. I follow America's Army (and anything Ryan Gordon/Epic or Timothee Bessett/Id) pretty religiously. I am a beta tester for the product, and I knwo the primary mirror admin. I was actually on my way to post the ebuild when I noticed this had bumped. Anyway, I've wasted the time it would have taken me to commit it, so now I've got to wait until I get home from work.
Oh yeah... this is coming... By the way, did you even notice who the bug submitter is?
Please don't *ever* complain about somebody contributing to a bug report. You are (believe it or not) human and therefor prone to mistakes and forgetfulness at times. I most certainly did see that you, the all mighty and all knowing Chris Gianelloni, were the original submitter. And I've seen the same sort of pithy reply from you in the past. So please crawl down off of your high horse now, thanks. ;) And I sincerely thank you for your excellent work on Gentoo.
So you admit to being a repeat offender? Amazing...... I honestly don't know what to say to such an attack. I sincerely hope that you chose to refrain from wasting my time in the future, along with the time of other Gentoo developers who volunteer their services so that you can have such a wonderful distribution.
Ha! No I *believe* you were responding to somebody else in the past; so you would be the repeat offender in this case. And I wasn't attacking you; I was responding to your pithy reply in kind. I was being sincere both when I thanked you for your contributions and when I asked you to refrain from making such condesending remarks to people for posting useful info to bug reports (in case anyone missed the point of my second post)! You are obviously a very intellegent and talented developer, but you (like many developers) need to realize that maybe, just maybe, you're not alone in that respect. Regular, ordinary people often have great insight too. So the next time somebody posts a very innocent and (whether you admit it or not) informative post such as "It is here: http://www.americasarmy.com/intel/fullstory.php?i=1271" you might want to think twice before talking down to them and then blaming them for you own actions: "Anyway, I've wasted the time it would have taken me to commit it, so now I've got to wait until I get home from work." (Implying that because *I* posted the reminder with the link *you* were unable to post the ebuild). I image my post causing some sort of voodoo to your keyboard at work. ;) Furthermore, it is folly to pretend that the developers are the only ones who make Gentoo great! Any user who asks a thoughful question, or posts a bug report, or even just complains in such a way that causes a change in Gentoo is contributing too. I sincerely hope that you continue to do great things for Gentoo! But I also sincerely hope that you at least try to be a little more polite to others who are trying to help. How hard would it have been to post this instead: "Thanks for the heads-up, but I'm already working on this. The ebuild is on the way!" Please refer to the Gentoo Developers Guide: "2.b. What you should try not to do One should try to not be rude, abusive or impolite under any circumstances. Sometimes, just one sarcastic comment can change the tone to the reader. If you think you might give somebody a bad as a result of your comment, and if you really need to say it, make sure people understand that you are not trying to be offensive. Please remember that you are an official representative of Gentoo. In this capacity, you are expected to maintain a certain level of professionalism and courtesy in your day-to-day interactions with users and other developers." Obviously, I found your reply to be condescending. If you didn't mean for it to be condescending, then I will give you the benefit of the doubt and believe this whole thing to just be a mis-understanding. If you'd like we can continue this in private, drop it, or continue spamming everyone through this bug report; your choice. Personally, I think option #2 would be best.
