A new version of Synergy was released on Nov-12, shortly after 1.1.9 which fixes a few bugs. Simply renaming the old ebuild seems to work. I have been running it for two days straight so far without an issue.

Nov-12-2004 - Synergy 1.1.10 released

Made following changes:

    * Fixed race in condition variable wrapper; caused synergy to hang randomly
    * Fixed modifier key and caps-lock handling on OSX
    * System info log message now filtered like all other messages
