Stupid mistake on my part exposed a bug in thunderbird. When thunderbird can't access fonts via fontconfig support, it crashes. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Change mode of font file in /usr/share/fonts/* to 600 used by thunderbird 2. run fc-cache -v -f 3. run thunderbird and try and read a mesage that uses that font. Actual Results: Either thunderbird will crash right a way or when you access the mail message that needs to access the font file. Expected Results: It should have fallen back to some simple font, displayed an information message indiciating no such font exists or both.
This is a bug to look up and report if it not exist allready at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/ at best. Breaking fonts has nothing to do with the ebuild. Don't know if you want to track this, mozilla herd...
Closing.
