kernel 2.6.9 crash after about half an hour running mplayer with the DGA video output driver. I haven't tried other output drivers yet. The same crash happens when I run celestia and xmms together. I am certain celestia is to blame because xmms does not crash the system on its own or in combination with any other application I tried to date. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1 a. run mplayer 2 a. watch for about half an hour, until the system hangs 1 b. run celestia and xmms together 2 b. do some heavy manipulations with celestia 3 b. after some time (variable, but considerably less than the half hor mplayer takes) the system hangs Actual Results: The symptoms are: When the crash appears I hear the sound looping first with a very short loop, so that it appears to be one sustained tone, for a few seconds. Then the sound loops with loop duration of about half a second, forever. Because the crashes occur only under X11 (as yet), and the system is completely locked with them, I can't give any information on kernel message, such as oopses. There are no entries in the syslog. Expected Results: Why, it should run forever! This bug is absent in the 2.6.5-r3 kernel which I used prior to upgrading to 2.6.9 ( and still use, as it is). Hardware: Athlon64 3000+ Matrox Millenium 2MB (yes, this is a /very/ old graphics card, and all OpenGL rendering is done in software!) SoundBlaster Live! Kernel config: http://www.gubi24.de/users/helge/gentoo-2.6.9-r4.config (created from the working 2.6.5 config with make oldconfig)
Could you please try development-sources-2.6.10-rc2?
development-sources-2.6.10-rc2 has the same problem.
Ok, please file a bug at http://bugzilla.kernel.org for this. Post the bug URL here and let us know of any progress.
