Created attachment 633612 [details] davinci-resolve-16.2.ebuild Hi! Please find attached davinci-resolve-16.2.ebuild. It will install the Blackmagic Design's DaVinci Resolve 16.2 It does not have many dependencies, it comes with bundled libs. The ebuild is inspired by Daniel Tufvesson's makeresolvedeb script (https://www.danieltufvesson.com/makeresolvedeb#allversions) and an existing ebuild for a previus version by Matt Bilker (https://github.com/mbilker/gentoo-overlay/tree/master/media-video) I'm new to ebuild writing so any feedback is welcome. I suggest media-video/davinci-resolve. Cheers, Gaspar

Thanks for submitting a new package request. You may want to: * Debundle libs if you can (devendorise) * Try submitting it to GURU: https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Project:GURU

could you update the ebuild ?
https://github.com/vowstar/vowstar-overlay/tree/master/media-video/davinci-resolve I've add davinci-resolve-17.4.ebuild to my overlay, and it tested on my environment. If it is stable, I'll move it to ::guru

Created attachment 765724 [details, diff] files/makeresolvedeb-gentoo.patch
my version uses the makeresolvedeb scripts to correct the resolve relase to work with debian as it also works with gentoo the ebuild schould also work with davinci-resolve-studio the patch just disables buildign of the deb package and correct the extraxt to be silend and fix the libinstall to use get_libdir instead.
I tried the 17.4.4 ebuild with 17.4.6 and it fails with: >>> Emerging (1 of 1) media-video/davinci-resolve-17.4.6::lucretia * DaVinci_Resolve_17.4.6_Linux.zip BLAKE2B SHA512 size ;-) ... the ebuild is also compatible with 17.4.6 just rename accordingly.
Hello, I'm not a programmer but using davinci-resolve-18.0.1.ebuild and makeresolvedeb_gentoo_1.6.0.patch I was able to install davinci-resolve-18.0.4. Thanks. However it required a few manual changes : - ebuild rennamed to davinci-resolve-18.0.4 (as indicated in a previous comment) - added two lines in the ebuild : src_prepare() { mv "${WORKDIR}"/makeresolvedeb*.sh "${WORKDIR}"/makeresolvedeb.sh ++ rm "/var/tmp/portage/media-video/davinci-resolve-18.0.4/files" ++ mkdir -p "/var/tmp/portage/media-video/davinci-resolve-18.0.4/files/" cp "/var/db/repos/local/media-video/davinci-resolve/makeresolvedeb_gentoo_${MRD_VER}.patch" "${FILESDIR}/makeresolvedeb_gentoo_${MRD_VER}.patch" rm "/var/tmp/portage/media-video/davinci-resolve-18.0.4/files" mkdir -p "/var/tmp/portage/media-video/davinci-resolve-18.0.4/files/" => strangely the FILESDIR was pointing to a file not a directory. the trick only works once then the files directory must be removed before a new install - emerged dpkg and fakeroot - did : pkgdev manifest - created directory /var/BlackmagicDesign - emerged davinci-resolve Davinci-resolve seems to start properly (at least I get the ui) but I'm still not sure if it works as expected since it's the first time I use it and have to learn. ymi
note that I also changed the cp line just after the two added lines ymi
could you post your build errors so i can see what is giong on

I've no idea where this "BlackmagicDesign" is coming from as the script has the separators in the paths.

Hi and thanks for the great job. I install Davinci Resolve Studio 18.1.1 and i can't activate the license key always error message that say i can't activate. i contact support tech and they finally can't help me the activation error persist i read the log at : /home/christophe/.local/share/DaVinciResolve/logs/ResolveDebug.txt and have an error from Python 2: <---> 0x7f9d24c24680 | Main | INFO | 2022-12-29 15:19:54,757 | Show splash screen message: D??marrage sh: ligne 1: python2 : commande introuvable 0x7f9d24c24680 | Main | INFO | 2022-12-29 15:19:54,853 | Show splash screen message: V??rification des licences <---> Python 2 is end of life, but i install python 2.7 and re run Davinci Resolve Studio and enter my license key and it can activate it. After i remove python 2.7 and the software continue to run normally.
With the davinci-resolve-studio-18.1.2 ebuild from overlay inode64-overlay : missing "dev-libs/apr-util" without Davinci Resolve Studio don't start
I got a lot of the following QA messages: scanelf: rpath_security_checks(): Security problem NULL DT_RPATH in /var/tmp/portage/media-video/davinci-resolve-18.1.1/image/opt/resolve/bin/resolve and some others.

There have been 2 more updates to DaVinci since this.

Hello, In my previous comments (#27 and #28) I described how I was able to install Davinci Resolve 18.0.4, but I did not give the error messages I got then. Plus there was an error in my comment : two lines were copied twice... Sorry for that and for the late reply. Today, I tried and succeeded to install Resolve 18.1.3 with Makeresolvedeb_gentoo_1.6.2. But I encountered the same errors as previously and I had to make the same modifications to the ebuild. First the error messages I get with the original 18.1.3 ebuild : /*** ____________________________________________ >>> Verifying ebuild manifests >>> Emerging (1 of 1) media-video/davinci-resolve-18.1.3::local >>> Failed to emerge media-video/davinci-resolve-18.1.3, Log file: >>> '/var/tmp/portage/media-video/davinci-resolve-18.1.3/temp/build.log' * Package: media-video/davinci-resolve-18.1.3:0 * Repository: local * USE: abi_x86_64 amd64 elibc_glibc kernel_linux udev userland_GNU * FEATURES: network-sandbox preserve-libs sandbox userpriv usersandbox * Applying makeresolvedeb_gentoo_1.6.2.patch ... /var/tmp/portage/media-video/davinci-resolve-18.1.3/temp/environment: line 512: /var/tmp/portage/media-video/davinci-resolve-18.1.3/files/makeresolvedeb_gentoo_1.6.2.patch: No such file or directory /var/tmp/portage/media-video/davinci-resolve-18.1.3/temp/environment: line 515: /var/tmp/portage/media-video/davinci-resolve-18.1.3/files/makeresolvedeb_gentoo_1.6.2.patch: No such file or directory [ !! ] * ERROR: media-video/davinci-resolve-18.1.3::local failed (prepare phase): * patch -p1 -p0 failed with /var/tmp/portage/media-video/davinci-resolve-18.1.3/files/makeresolvedeb_gentoo_1.6.2.patch * * Call stack: * ebuild.sh, line 136: Called src_prepare * environment, line 1302: Called eapply '-p0' '/var/tmp/portage/media-video/davinci-resolve-18.1.3/files/makeresolvedeb_gentoo_1.6.2.patch' * environment, line 580: Called _eapply_patch '/var/tmp/portage/media-video/davinci-resolve-18.1.3/files/makeresolvedeb_gentoo_1.6.2.patch' * environment, line 518: Called __helpers_die 'patch -p1 -p0 failed with /var/tmp/portage/media-video/davinci-resolve-18.1.3/files/makeresolvedeb_gentoo_1.6.2.patch' * isolated-functions.sh, line 112: Called die * The specific snippet of code: * die "$@" __________________________________ ***\ Now the modified ebuild contains 3 additional lines in the src_prepare() part : /***______________________________ src_prepare() { mv "${WORKDIR}"/makeresolvedeb*.sh "${WORKDIR}"/makeresolvedeb.sh rm -rf "/var/tmp/portage/media-video/davinci-resolve-18.1.3/files" ### ADDED LINE ### mkdir -p "/var/tmp/portage/media-video/davinci-resolve-18.1.3/files/" ### ADDED LINE ### cp "/var/db/repos/local/media-video/davinci-resolve/makeresolvedeb_gentoo_${MRD_VER}.patch" "${FILESDIR}/makeresolvedeb_gentoo_${MRD_VER}.patch" ### ADDED LINE ### eapply -p0 "${FILESDIR}/makeresolvedeb_gentoo_${MRD_VER}.patch" eapply_user sed -i -e "s!#LIBDIR#!$(get_libdir)!" Hi, Updated ebuild, makeresolve and patch are now working for me. Actually, I had missed Comment#17, which indicates that the patch was to be placed in " /var/db/repos/local/media-video/davinci-resolve/files " I had it in " /var/db/repos/local/media-video/davinci-resolve " Now all is fine. Thanks.
Hi, Given the libraries shipped by the vendor (installed in /opt/resolve/libs) cause issues like this (https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-8787192.html?sid=29512ddfc417660cd4fe3108d802edcd), should we add a post-install script to remove the shipped libs if the local system already has those available (and likely more up-to-date/compatible)?

You might want to remove the use flag I added to do this and also fix the pax errors.
