Description Florian Gamböck 2020-04-15 10:02:06 UTC
The current stable packages are sys-fs/fuse-2.9.8 and sys-fs/fuse-common-3.9.1. Neither of them does install /usr/sbin/mount.fuse, so an fstab entry like the following does not work:

/a /b fuse.bindfs ro 0 0

The fstype fuse.bindfs tries to find mount.fuse, which is not found.

With sys-fs/fuse-common-3.2.6, mount.fuse was installed and sys-fs/fuse-2.9.8 still has a line in its ebuild which removes mount.fuse prior to install. Now it seems like the fuse ebuilds are expected to install mount.fuse, since fuse-common-3.9.1 does no longer install it.

FWIW, unstable sys-fs/fuse-2.9.9-r1 *will* install mount.fuse, or at least, it does not remove it prior to installing.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Upgrade from sys-fs/fuse-common-3.2.6 to sys-fs/fuse-common-3.9.1
2. Set up an fstab entry that uses a fuse:0 based filesystem, like bindfs
Actual Results:
Binary mount.fuse is not installed, mounts via fstab are failing.

Expected Results:
Binary mount.fuse is installed like it used to be, mounts via fstab succeed.

Comment 1 Tim Harder gentoo-dev 2020-04-15 10:21:35 UTC
2.9.9-r1 should have been stabilized along with fuse-3, this is now happening in bug #717500.
Comment 2 Tim Harder gentoo-dev 2020-04-24 22:24:03 UTC
Closing since fuse-2.9.9-r1 is stable now.
