The current stable packages are sys-fs/fuse-2.9.8 and sys-fs/fuse-common-3.9.1. Neither of them does install /usr/sbin/mount.fuse, so an fstab entry like the following does not work: /a /b fuse.bindfs ro 0 0 The fstype fuse.bindfs tries to find mount.fuse, which is not found. With sys-fs/fuse-common-3.2.6, mount.fuse was installed and sys-fs/fuse-2.9.8 still has a line in its ebuild which removes mount.fuse prior to install. Now it seems like the fuse ebuilds are expected to install mount.fuse, since fuse-common-3.9.1 does no longer install it. FWIW, unstable sys-fs/fuse-2.9.9-r1 *will* install mount.fuse, or at least, it does not remove it prior to installing. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Upgrade from sys-fs/fuse-common-3.2.6 to sys-fs/fuse-common-3.9.1 2. Set up an fstab entry that uses a fuse:0 based filesystem, like bindfs Actual Results: Binary mount.fuse is not installed, mounts via fstab are failing. Expected Results: Binary mount.fuse is installed like it used to be, mounts via fstab succeed. # emerge --info Portage 2.3.89 (python 3.6.10-final-0, unavailable, gcc-9.2.0, glibc-2.29-r7, 4.19.97-gentoo-floga x86_64) ================================================================= System uname: Linux-4.19.97-gentoo-floga-x86_64-Intel-R-_Core-TM-_i7-4790K_CPU_@_4.00GHz-with-gentoo-2.6 KiB Mem: 7816120 total, 184524 free KiB Swap: 15630332 total, 14511332 free Timestamp of repository gentoo: Tue, 14 Apr 2020 13:30:01 +0000 Head commit of repository gentoo: 129c70a341b4b5f97cf05ac16b64936f3cdbb37c sh bash 4.4_p23-r1 ld GNU ld (Gentoo 2.33.1 p2) 2.33.1 distcc 3.3.3 x86_64-pc-linux-gnu [disabled] ccache version 3.7.7 [disabled] app-shells/bash: 4.4_p23-r1::gentoo dev-java/java-config: 2.2.0-r4::gentoo dev-lang/perl: 5.30.1::gentoo dev-lang/python: 2.7.17-r2::gentoo, 3.6.10-r1::gentoo, 3.7.7-r1::gentoo dev-util/ccache: 3.7.7-r1::gentoo dev-util/cmake: 3.16.5::gentoo dev-util/pkgconfig: 0.29.2::gentoo sys-apps/baselayout: 2.6-r1::gentoo sys-apps/openrc: 0.42.1::gentoo sys-apps/sandbox: 2.13::gentoo sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13-r1::gentoo, 2.69-r4::gentoo sys-devel/automake: 1.16.1-r1::gentoo sys-devel/binutils: 2.33.1-r1::gentoo sys-devel/gcc: 9.2.0-r2::gentoo sys-devel/gcc-config: 2.2.1::gentoo sys-devel/libtool: 2.4.6-r6::gentoo sys-devel/make: 4.2.1-r4::gentoo sys-kernel/linux-headers: 5.4::gentoo (virtual/os-headers) sys-libs/glibc: 2.29-r7::gentoo Repositories: gentoo location: /usr/portage sync-type: rsync sync-uri: rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage priority: -1000 sync-rsync-verify-max-age: 24 sync-rsync-extra-opts: sync-rsync-verify-jobs: 1 sync-rsync-verify-metamanifest: yes Installed sets: @ff-furore ACCEPT_LICENSE="* -@EULA" CFLAGS="" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/share/gnupg/qualified.txt /usr/share/maven-bin-3.6/conf" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/ca-certificates.conf /etc/dconf /etc/env.d /etc/fonts/fonts.conf /etc/gentoo-release /etc/revdep-rebuild /etc/sandbox.d /etc/terminfo /etc/texmf/language.dat.d /etc/texmf/language.def.d /etc/texmf/updmap.d /etc/texmf/web2c" CXXFLAGS="" DISTDIR="/var/cache/distfiles" FCFLAGS="" FEATURES="assume-digests binpkg-docompress binpkg-dostrip binpkg-logs config-protect-if-modified distlocks ebuild-locks fixlafiles ipc-sandbox merge-sync multilib-strict network-sandbox news parallel-fetch pid-sandbox preserve-libs protect-owned qa-unresolved-soname-deps sandbox sfperms strict unknown-features-warn unmerge-logs unmerge-orphans userfetch userpriv usersandbox usersync xattr" FFLAGS="" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://distfiles.gentoo.org" LANG="de_DE.utf8" LDFLAGS="" PKGDIR="/var/cache/binpkgs" PORTAGE_CONFIGROOT="/" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --omit-dir-times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --stats --human-readable --timeout=180 --exclude=/distfiles --exclude=/local --exclude=/packages --exclude=/.git" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" USE="" Unset: ACCEPT_KEYWORDS, CBUILD, CC, CHOST, CPPFLAGS, CTARGET, CXX, EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS, ENV_UNSET, INSTALL_MASK, LC_ALL, LINGUAS, MAKEOPTS, PORTAGE_BINHOST, PORTAGE_BUNZIP2_COMMAND, PORTAGE_COMPRESS, PORTAGE_COMPRESS_FLAGS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS
2.9.9-r1 should have been stabilized along with fuse-3, this is now happening in bug #717500.
Closing since fuse-2.9.9-r1 is stable now.
