Description Tom Conneely 2004-11-16 17:18:53 UTC
For a folder containing MP3s etc... nautilus can be configured to "View as audio" (whatever that entails I don't know as its broken). When choosing this option an error dialog appears with the message:

'The Application "nautilus-audio-view" has quit unexpectedly.'

this leads me to susbect a binary called nautilus-audio-view is missing, plus the fact Gnome's bug buddy produces an error message saying "bin file not found, try using absolute path".

My hunch is either missing package, or configure option on compile of nautilus IMHO.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Navigate to MP3 folder with nautilus
2. Select "View=>View as Audio"

Actual Results:
Error dialog:

'The Application "nautilus-audio-view" has quit unexpectedly.'

Expected Results:
Folder view change

Hmm this feature works for me. Try reemerging gnome-extra/nautilus-media. I currently have version 0.8.
Comment 2 Tom Conneely 2004-11-17 03:31:02 UTC
Further investigation I have learnt this is provided by package nautilus-media . According to emerge I have version 0.3.3.1 installed, however project site (http://thomas.apestaart.org/projects/nautilus-media/) latest version is 0.3.1. I am in the process of re-merging nautilus-media, though not sat at my computer at moment so can't comment on whether fixesproblem (hopes not high).
Comment 3 Tom Conneely 2004-11-17 03:36:40 UTC
Should read all comments before posting shouldn't I really :). nautilus-media-0.8.0 is currently masked (x86 2004.2), so it appears this needs to be unmasked for a fully working gnome.

we don't have nautilus-media in the gnome meta pack anymore because of it's unstable nature, our suggestion is to not use it at this time.
Comment 5 Mike Gardiner (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-11-23 08:31:36 UTC
I can't seem find this "View as Audio..." option anywhere. As far as I know, it's in regression upstream.
Comment 6 Tom Conneely 2004-11-23 08:48:13 UTC
Just in case someone else can't find this feature here's a screenshot:

http://www.geocities.com/da_only_geniarse/nautilus_audio_view_scrn.png

And an update on my problem, with version nautilus-audio-view-0.8.0, I can "view as audio" but when I attempt to play an mp3 with the inline player the viewer crashes.

I am running a bog standard gentoo gnome installation, perhaps if anyone knows someone running gnome-2.8 on none gentoo distro they can find out if this feature works for them so we know whether its a gentoo or gnome bug.

p.s if t is advised not to use the feature, then the default install of gnome should not offer this feature surely?? (of course if it is possible to remove)
Comment 7 foser (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-11-30 04:53:17 UTC
it is advised not to use the feature & the default install doesn't dep on it anymore. It can only be a left-over from before that.

Do 'emerge -C nautilus-media' if it is giving you trouble.
