Bug 71445 – equalizing the treatment of /dev/null in rc script [patch attached]

The rc script uses several different ways of redirecting output 
to /dev/null.  Attached patches make all these redirections use 
the same manner, with or without spaces, as I can't figure out 
the preference.

there is no preference because these files are maintained by a couple of people ;)
