Firefox has bumped its libvpx dependency to version 1.8 only last week. 1.7 is no longer supported by firefox. All other libvpx dependencies on my system also use 1.8 for some time now. However, thunderbird still requires 1.7. As libvpx does not allow to install both 1.7 and 1.8 at the same time, this means that either firefox or thunderbird must be installed with -system-libvpx. Is it possible to version-bump thunderbird's libvpx dependency to 1.8?
Same here. Firefox just got downgraded to 68.x on my system because there are no newer ebuilds left that support libvpx 1.7. Introducing support for 1.8 with thunderbird currently seems like the only way to fix this...
UPDATE: the latest ebuild available from the Gentoo Mozilla team at https://gitweb.gentoo.org/proj/mozilla.git/tree/mail-client/thunderbird/thunderbird-68.6.0.ebuild seems to support this. I'll try adding it to my local overlay...
thunderbird will continue to support libvpx via the mozilla overlay. You are free to use it from there or disable system-libvpx for thunderbird.
The mozilla overlay no longer contains a current-version thunderbird ebuild for libvpx 1.8, and the libvpx patch used by the ebuild in the overlay applied up to thunderbird-68.10.0, but seems to fail for 68.11.0 .
