I changed from nv to nvidia drivers in xorg.conf and the fonts in gnome apps were ugly and huge so I went looking for ways to change them. The only luck I had was with starting gnome-session as I'm using a window manager called kahakai and not Gnome. When starting gnome-session before galeon/mozilla/firefox it causes the rendering problems you can see in the image. This happens when scrolling, when highlighting text, where the paragraph gets weird outlines, or even on the animated gifs in the gentoo forums where there's a black 1 px line drawn down one side of them. I've tried switching back to nv. then starting gnome-session then galeon. problem remains. I've tried using mozilla and firefox, problem is in both of those too. If I start galeon, then run gnome-session it will resize the widget text but not the text in the browser but there's no bug visible. where's your emerge info ? (read the bugreport form) i assume you don't have composite or other nvidia specific options turned on ? the other 'problems' you mention are normal session behaviour.
