I built the 1.0 mozilla-firefox package and the logo is the globe without the fox

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Start firefox
2.
3.

Actual Results:  
the fox wasn't on the logo

Expected Results:  
the fox to be on the logo

The task bar logo also is just the world image without the fox.

This isn't a bug.  The Firefox team has said that only official builds (so mozilla-firefox-bin) are allowed to have the graphics you are used to.  If you compile your own, it will need to have these graphics or ones that the ebuild author chooses to substitute.

Seeing as it's been over 4 months since the last note here, did anything come of this?

I have the red fox in place.

This was fixed in stable release some time back. On to 1.5 until upstream gives
us (gentoo0 permission to brand it will say Deer Park, get used to it.
