Description seatec-astronomy 2004-11-11 12:47:49 UTC
I'm having a very strange problem the last days, that sometimes a reboot fixed(no, this is not windows). Now it seems to stay.
The last reboot went fine, I didn't install or change anything before, now I can't properly use the system anymore.

- I boot into kdm/kde 3.3, sometimes X crashs there when I try to login. I see the console afterwards, when I type a username, it waits for some seconds, then shows me the username prompt again. No way to enter the pass

- Most of the time I make it into kde. if I run ssh or emerge (f.ex.) from the commandline, they segfault. strace/ltrace show that mprotect() failed. With this bug, Mozilla Thunderbird and Mozilla Firefox refuse to start too.

- right now, I can run Mozilla*, even emerge normally, .. but:

bash-2.05b$ ssh somehost.com
ssh: relocation error: /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.7: symbol , version GLIBC_2.0 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference

The hardware is a p4 2.8, asus board, gigabit ethernet, ... nothing special

This really seems like a hardware problem.. did you try with another OS (or from a livecd?) and test your ram with memtest86 ...

Please re-open if everything else fails ;)
