After upgrading to the new firefox-1.0 I am missing the feature in Preferences > Advanced > Tabbed Browsing to open _all_ links that normally would open a new window via JavaScript or _blank target could be opened in a new tab instead of a new window. It was the most exciting new feature I liked in 1.0-rc2. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge =mozilla-firefox-1.0 2. 3. Actual Results: Feature is missing Expected Results: Should exist since it worked AFAIK # emerge info Portage 2.0.51-r3 (default-x86-2004.2, gcc-3.4.3, glibc-2.3.4.20041102-r0, 2.6.9-ck2 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.9-ck2 i686 AMD Duron(tm) Gentoo Base System version 1.6.6 distcc 2.18 i686-pc-linux-gnu (protocols 1 and 2) (default port 3632) [disabled] Autoconf: sys-devel/autoconf-2.59-r5 Automake: sys-devel/automake-1.8.5-r1 Binutils: sys-devel/binutils-2.15.92.0.2-r1 Headers: sys-kernel/linux-headers-2.4.19,sys-kernel/linux-headers-2.4.22 Libtools: sys-devel/libtool-1.5.2-r7 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86 ~x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-march=i686 -O3 -pipe -mmmx -msse -m3dnow -mfpmath=sse -ftracer" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" COMPILER="" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.2/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/env /usr/kde/3.3/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/share/config /usr/share/texmf/dvipdfm/config/ /usr/share/texmf/dvips/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/platex/config/ /usr/share/texmf/xdvi/ /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=i686 -O3 -pipe -mmmx -msse -m3dnow -mfpmath=sse -ftracer" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs ccache distlocks sandbox" GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp://mirror.switch.ch/mirror/gentoo/ http://ftp-stud.fht-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/gentoo/ http://gentoo.osuosl.org http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="3dnow 3dnowex X aalib acl acpi acpi4linux alsa apache2 apm avi berkdb bitmap-fonts blender-game bonobo bootsplash bzlib cdparanoia cdr clanVoice crypt cups dba dedicated dga divx4linux doc dvd encode escreen f77 fbcon foomaticdb fortran freetype gcj gd gdbm gif gnome gpm gtk gtk2 imagemagick imlib java jpeg libg++ libwww mad mailwrapper mbox mikmod mmx mmx2 motif mpeg mysql ncurses net nls oggvorbis opengl oss pam pdflib perl png python quicktime radeon readline rtc ruby samba sdl session shared silverxp slang sockets spell spl sse ssl stencil-buffer svga tcltk tcpd tetex tokenizer truetype usb userlocales videos wxwindows x86 xchattext xfs xml xml2 xmms xpm xprint xsl xv zlib"
Install the tabbrowser extensions plugin as a workaround please. How do you think should we resolve this bug?
I thought that the Firefox Developers would not disable features when going from RC2 to Final. So I thought it is caused by the compilation and therefore by for example a missing configure parameter ...
Sry, but there is no "Tabbrowser" extension for Firefox. At least I did not find one.
you can find it easily: http://www.google.com/search?q=tabbrowser+extensions Click the first link and there download.
I encountered an interesting point: when I use the old config directory of 1.0rc2 (I backuped and deleted it to get a clean, new config directory) which had this feature enabled and use it with 1.0 it still works! So when it exists and when it works why can't I enable it?
Sorry, I don't know why they removed the feature in 1.0. You might be able to still get it in about:config Either way it's not a Gentoo bug... you'd have to go upstream to get your question answered.
