When using the embedded arts player to playback .mp3 files, a loud hiss (or static) sound is heard. (e.g. using konqueror to 'browse' audio, noatun playback etc.) This is independent of alsa/oss, using gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.9 (but has existed since 2.6.7, iirc). Machine is PB-G3/400 (Lombard). .wav and .ogg play correctly with both oss/alsa. Launching artsd with the console (not running X11), and then using artsplay 'displays' the same issue with .mp3 files. mpg123, xmms work correctly through both oss/alsa, ditto with oggplay. Downgrading to arts-1.2.0 does not fix the issue.
If you think, cross-bugzilla posting is polite or helpful, then you're wrong. If you're sure, that it is a pure KDE issue, then open a bug in bugs.kde.org, otherwise here. But not in both. It's not needed to let two developer crowds investigate at the same time. Precious time.
