An upgrade to -6629 nvidia-kernel and nvidia-glx gentoo packages broke many precompiled GL programs like Neverwinter Nights, Neverball (open source), Mutant Storm. A missing symbol.

When run directly the nVidia installer made these applications work properly again. It appears the actions taken by the gentoo ebuilds need to be compared with the actions taken by the nvidia installer.

I made some changes to nvidia-glx-1.0.6629 which includes a couple of patches being bought over from 6111 can you try out this version of the ebuild (its only gone into cvs a few mins ago however), and see if the problem persists.
