"The font used in the logo is Zurich Light Extra Condensed" https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Project:Artwork/Colors How may we use this font legally? Do we have to pay for the usage in publications? Reproducible: Always
This is a very good question that predates even me as a developer. I've never looked into the provenance of the font in the logo, but I can say as treasurer and long-term trustee, that any purchase of the font would have predated the Foundation, and wasn't in the transferred assets.
If we follow our principles, then maybe we should use an open source font for the logo? Or is there a special reason why we must use the Zurich font? The Tyrian layout uses Open Sans as the font for the main body, so maybe that would be a good choice? It has a "Condensed Light" variant: https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Open+Sans+Condensed License is Apache-2.0. It has a "double storey" small g (but is this a drawback?). Alternatively, a font with a "single storey" g: Noto Sans ExtraCondensed (Regular, or Light), https://www.google.com/get/noto/#sans-lgc License is OFL-1.1.
Also, in sources/img/src/site-logo.ai: <xmp:CreatorTool>Adobe Illustrator CS6 (Windows)</xmp:CreatorTool> Why are we using non-free tools on a non-free OS to create our artwork? It is embarrassing.
I vote for move to an open source font like Open Sans
