Unfortunately I cannot reproduce this issue. However, according to your build log, zig crashes in /var/tmp/portage/dev-lang/zig-0.5.0/work/zig-0.5.0/lib/std/build.zig, line 1841, due to an unhandled error. Following the code back to the error's possible origins, it was most likely caused by resource exhaustion. At this step, zig uses a considerable amount of memory on my machine. Your machine has been swapping. Have you checked if this may have caused the build to fail?
