Description Bruno Lustosa 2004-11-07 19:41:00 UTC
When I select "Clear Recent Documents" from the "Recent Documents" menu option (in the main gnome menu), it asks for confirmation, but doesn't actually clear them.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. GNOME foot -> Recent Documents -> Clear Recent Documents
2. Press "Clear" in the confirmation window
3.

Actual Results:
If you go back into "Recent Documents", all documents are still there.

Expected Results:
Cleared the list????

Here's the output from emerge info. I have just synced and upgraded everything
(with --deep)

Comment 1 foser (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-11-08 06:04:00 UTC
well it actually does get cleared, it only doesn't get notified. Is fam running ?
Comment 2 Bruno Lustosa 2004-11-08 09:43:50 UTC
No, famd wasn't running. However, even with famd running, it still isn't clearing the list. If famd is needed for this to work, shouldn't it be automatically loaded by either gnome-session or put on startup scripts (rc-update??) by portage when installing gnome??
Comment 3 foser (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-11-08 09:56:54 UTC
both the famd & the gnome meta ebuild mention the fact that you should add it to your default runlevel. We do not automagicly add daemons because its bad (TM).

Have you restarted your session before trying again ?
Comment 4 Bruno Lustosa 2004-11-08 10:00:14 UTC
No, but I will.
I aggree with you in the fact that it's bad to add it automatically.
However, when most people emerge gnome, they usually leave the emerge unattended, becuase it takes hours, and so, we normally can't see the info shown between package merges.
Is that another way to have it shown? Lots of problems could be solved if the info was shown in the end, or logged to a file, whatever.
Comment 5 Mike Gardiner (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-11-29 03:02:44 UTC
Okay, WORKSFORME, but we'll add some einfo to the gnome emerge. Adding to 2.8.1's list.
Comment 6 foser (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-11-29 03:21:24 UTC
we should remove the info on famd & suggest using gamin, which doesn't need a daemon.
Comment 7 Mike Gardiner (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-11-29 03:30:48 UTC
Maybe, but not while the default virtual/fam points to app-admin/fam. If we want to encourage people to use gamin, shouldn't we specify it as the default for virtual/fam ?
Comment 8 foser (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-11-29 03:35:59 UTC
yes, and eventually that will change, but there is more in the tree than gnome that uses fam & that needs testing first. For gnome itself I would at this point already push gamin over fam.
Comment 9 Mike Gardiner (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-12-18 20:35:17 UTC
I added a "How to/Why Switch" for FAM/Gamin to our Project page - http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/desktop/gnome/index.xml

Where should we go from here foser?
Comment 10 foser (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-12-19 12:13:22 UTC
I'm still waiting for the last packages in the tree to be tested with gamin. Before that is done we can't change the default virtual to it.

For gnome it is recommendable to use gamin with inotify enabled kernel in my experience, so we should try and push that.
Comment 11 foser (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-01-06 04:29:13 UTC
the solutions are here, this can be closed.
