Description Sebastian Pipping gentoo-dev 2019-12-19 17:17:25 UTC
Hi!

Context:
When Corentin Chary (iksaif) was still a Gentoo developer, he built a nice tool called euscan https://github.com/iksaif/euscan for the community, coming with both a CLI tool and a Django-based web service that patrick@ is operating to this day at http://euscan.gentooexperimental.org/ according to that page's footer.
Looking at https://gitweb.gentoo.org/ I cannot find any maintenance forks of euscan. There a a few forks by individuals on GitHub (https://github.com/iksaif/euscan/network/members) but there is no home to joint maintenance, say to keep updating to more recent versions of Django and Python.

Since Gentoo is slowly moving off GitHub, I think we should:

- backup status quo of https://github.com/iksaif/euscan to a new repository at git.gentoo.org .

- create a fork of https://github.com/iksaif/euscan to https://github.com/gentoo/euscan but turn it into a mirror of that new repo on git.gentoo.org, so it gets some visibility and allows to activate Travis CI

- ask iksaif to make his repository link to ours when done

What do you think?

proj/euscan? Who should have push access?

Would you oppose: all Gentoo developers? I haven't talked to patrick about this topic outside of this ticket yet. If you'd rather go minimal: hanno, patrick and me for a start?

PS: naming looks good!

Great idea, it will be nice to have euscan worked on again!

As hanno spotted, I have a fork with initial py3 support (for CLI itself, not the webapp) and a few small fixes:
https://github.com/voyageur/euscan

Feel free to pick stuff from it - and when everything is setup I'll gladly do my possible to help

I'm sorry that I've forgotten about this. The repo is now created [1] along with gh mirror [2].

For the record, all @devs have been given push access + triage access to GH (to close pull requests).
