With a single make job and eight gigabytes of RAM, this does not look like the normal problem of not setting enough memory per job, i.e. reducing the number of jobs to match the amount of RAM.

Check dmesg. Your system has probably run out of memory and killed the compiler.

Let me put it like this. When I had 4G of RAM, -j2 ran out of memory and had to double that. With -j8, I'd suggest you go for 32G, though 24G might suffice.

Feel free to reopen the bug if that's not the case. It usually is, though.

MAKEOPTS is unset here, but the build.log curiously says:

>>> Working in BUILD_DIR: "/var/tmp/portage/sys-devel/clang-8.0.0/work/x/y/cfe-8.0.0.src-abi_x86_64.amd64"
ninja -v -j8 -l0

Hi! Thanks! I`m maked a swapfile and it works, but the compiler was extremely slow. If I do define makeopts to -j5 is betler, most fast?
Comment 9 Michał Górny archtester Gentoo Infrastructure gentoo-dev Security 2019-12-17 06:39:42 UTC
You may need to even go to -j3 or lower, at least for big C++ files those being part of clang.

Thanks!
