On first sight I don't see anything obvious, except it scouting under doc/ stuff with USE="-doc". Although it runs these automatic general checks no matter what, it shouldn't error out on them. Could you attach /var/tmp/portage/dev-libs/efl-1.23.3/work/efl-1.23.3-build/meson-logs/meson-log.txt as well? I'm afraid it's some cross-compile related thing (not sure if meson supports it), and I have an idea how to fix it, but it's gonna be a dirty hack and last resort.
Created attachment 600336 [details] meson-log.txt Well, in the end all the build sytem needs to do is respecting the environment (especially the variables like $CC/$CXX and $CFLAGS/$CXXFLAGS) and the rest would work just fine. With autotools it did work just fine, but sadly most other build systems have some issues and need some manual work.
Sorry I've forgotten this. There's been a lot of changes in meson regarding cross-compiling. I wonder would it work "out-of-the-box" now? https://gitweb.gentoo.org/repo/gentoo.git/log/eclass/meson.eclass I remember seeing workarounds at least in systemd ebuild. tc-export AR CC NM OBJCOPY RANLIB
efl-1.24.2 does at least compile for both amd64 and x86 so it seems like the improvements have helped.
Looks like meson.eclass updates fixed it.
