Current MATE desktop in portage is 1.22, desired latest version 1.23.2 which has some fixes (for example, kernel changed cpufreq API in 5.1.0 so mate-applets no longer compile without a patch amongst other changes)

And now mate-session-manager-1.22.3 which fixes a long login delay
due to newer(stable) gnome-keyring

We don't release odd number branches as they are development branches.  But if there is a breaking bug on a specific package, we can backport a fix from the dev branch.
