Description Thomas Haschka 2019-11-19 14:33:35 UTC
I can not install reference implementations of lapack / blas anymore,
further gsl does not provide a cblas for eselect-ldso anymore.

This makes it virtually impossible to install any other version of lapack then
sci-libs/lapack-3.8 on the system,
especially if you want to emerge sci-libs/scikits_learn.

1 ) if lapack-3.8 is the reference implementation then it should be renamed to lapack-reference

2 ) you should be allowed to still install fortran reference versions and permit gsl to provide cblas

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
The following happens trying to emerge lapack-reference

emerge -pv lapack-reference

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild  N     ] app-eselect/eselect-lapack-0.2::gentoo  0 KiB
[ebuild  N     ] sci-libs/lapack-3.8.0::gentoo  USE="-doc -eselect-ldso -lapacke" 0 KiB
[ebuild  N     ] virtual/blas-3.8::gentoo  USE="-eselect-ldso" 0 KiB
[ebuild  N     ] sci-libs/lapack-reference-3.2.1-r4::gentoo  USE="-doc" 4,694 KiB
[blocks B      ] sci-libs/lapack-reference ("sci-libs/lapack-reference" is blocking sci-libs/lapack-3.8.0)

Expected Results:
lapack-reference is built

Lapack-3.8 is the reference implementation. The upstream is named lapack. The tarball also includes BLAS. Therefore we decide to merge cblas-reference, blas-reference and lapack-reference and rename it back to sci-libs/lapack.

> 2 ) you should be allowed to still install fortran reference versions

lapack-3.8 has both the fortran and c reference versions.

Sorry we decided not to do so. See bug 688742 for details.

Marking as resolved-fixed as the comments by the gentoo developer were informative on how gentoo handles blas/lapack right now.

Thanks Thomas!
