Description Gertjan Zwartjes 2004-11-04 01:59:35 UTC
When you try to start a virtual machine after emerging vmware-workstation-4.5.2.8848-r2, it will complain that vmware-vmx is not setuid root. This error will appear when you start vmware from the console only! People starting vmware from a menu or icon will be unable to start a VM; pressing the start button does nothing.
Comment 1 Gertjan Zwartjes 2004-11-04 04:08:55 UTC
Forgot to point out the (trivial) solution:

  chmod u+s /opt/vmware/lib/bin/vmware-vmx
Comment 2 Norberto Bensa 2004-11-04 08:12:31 UTC
Thanks. I was asking myself why the hell did I upgraded to -r2 just to find out it doesn't work.

BTW, your fix solves the problem.
Comment 3 Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-11-04 13:42:22 UTC
I'm sorry, but it was requested from our security team to try it without the suid bits. I didn't have a problem with it locally, so I commited it.

Norberto, there is really no need for comments such as that. They are not constructive and quite frankly I find it selfish and immature.

Thanks
