Description fling 2019-11-12 13:00:52 UTC
>> Even after allegedly moving all firmware to a separate project as of release 4.14, Linux so-called "sources" published by Mr Torvalds still contain non-Free firmware disguised as source code.

'K_DEBLOB_AVAILABLE="1"' should be put back to the ebuilds for the deblob functionality to become available again.

Also wiki page should be fixed.

>> Starting with kernel version 4.14, the whole firmware tree has been dropped. So, for new kernel versions, deblobbing is no longer necessary.
>> deblob USE flag no more deblobs sys-kernel/gentoo-sources, this must be manually done.

First line is a lie, also why deblob manually when it is not needed?

Reproducible: Always

>> Deblobing kernel obviously means that devices that exclusively support proprietary firmware cannot be used.
This is also wrong. Many devices work just fine.

This functionality has been deprecated awhile ago.
There are no plans to restore this functionality at this time.

This may get revisited in a future date
