Description Bill Kenworthy 2004-11-03 15:30:27 UTC
I use ufed regularly. After a full system rebuild I ended up with an evolution with no ssl support.

Found that ufed removed the ssl and mozilla flags when saving (they are not in make.conf). However, starting ufed again shows them present! (X is set, but the + flag for make.conf is absent). euse -c shows the flags as not present - and if enabled ufed will remove them again. If I try and build evolution with the flags present (added by euse), evo still gets no ssl support.

This is (the ufed part) happening on two systems - both old systems (running gentoo > 2 yrs) continuously upgraded, though one has recently had major dramas with a disk failure and subsequent insitu rebuild.

This is driving me crazy (I need evo with ssl/tls support)

You didn't include the output of emerge --info, so this is a little bit of a guess, but:

ufed automatically removes redundant flags from your make.conf. If you have mozilla installed, the mozilla flag will already be set. If you have openssl installed, or if you are using a profile that sets it by default, the ssl flag already will be set. There's no need to also place these in make.conf, so ufed removes them. You can check the output of emerge --info and emerge -pv evolution to make sure that the flags are set.

"If I try and build evolution with the flags present (added by euse), evo still gets no ssl support."
That really can't be a problem with ufed. Does it look like the same problem as bug #68267 to you?
Comment 2 Bill Kenworthy 2004-11-05 23:19:41 UTC
Thanks for the explanation. the ssl flag was being removed even when I didnt have mozilla in the USE. I have now added mozilla, and as long as I dont run ufed it (and ssl) stays - so I guess its still broke. The evolution problem does look like bug #68267, looks like it might be time to move to evo2 - hope they get the stable fixed quick!

emerge info (ssl and mozilla readded using euse after ufed removed them both)

well - in fact - there is a problem in ufed. let's follow something (pay attention on 'gnome' flag):

here my flags from /etc/make.conf:
USE="3dnow apache2 dvd fbcon fla gd glut gtk2 imlib2 javascript jikes lcms \
mailwrapper mbox memlimit mmx nocardbus nptl nvidia pda ppds sasl \
serial sse userlocales v4l v4l2 videos vim-with-x wmf xvid -apm \
-foomaticdb -libg++ -spell -svga -berkdb -esd -gdbm -kde -mad -xml \
     -xml2 -xmms -gnome"

and from emerge info:
USE="3dnow X aalib alsa apache2 arts avi bitmap-fonts crypt cups dvd encode f77 fam fbcon fla gd gif glut gnome gphoto2 gpm gtk gtk2 imagemagick imlib imlib2 java javascript jikes jpeg lcms libwww mailwrapper mbox memlimit mikmod mmx motif mpeg mysql ncurses nls nocardbus nptl nvidia oggvorbis opengl oss pam pda pdflib perl png ppds python qt quicktime readline samba sasl sdl serial slang sse ssl tcltk tcpd tiff truetype userlocales v4l v4l2 videos vim-with-x wmf x86 xv xvid zlib"

now i execute ufed, and i chose save in it (without any changes).

from make.conf:
USE="3dnow apache2 dvd fbcon fla gd glut gtk2 imlib2 javascript jikes lcms \
mailwrapper mbox memlimit mmx nocardbus nptl nvidia pda ppds sasl \
serial sse userlocales v4l v4l2 videos vim-with-x wmf xvid -apm \
-foomaticdb -libg++ -spell -svga -berkdb -esd -gdbm -kde -mad -xml \
     -xml2 -xmms"

from emerge info:
USE="3dnow X aalib alsa apache2 arts avi bitmap-fonts crypt cups dvd encode f77 fam fbcon fla gd gif glut gnome gphoto2 gpm gtk gtk2 imagemagick imlib imlib2 java javascript jikes jpeg lcms libwww mailwrapper mbox memlimit mikmod mmx motif mpeg mysql ncurses nls nocardbus nptl nvidia oggvorbis opengl oss pam pda pdflib perl png ppds python qt quicktime readline samba sasl sdl serial slang sse ssl tcltk tcpd tiff truetype userlocales v4l v4l2 videos vim-with-x wmf x86 xv xvid zlib"

as you can see, ufed turns 'gnome' flag on. it's propably becouse it doesn't see it's on by default and remove it from make.conf as a reduntatn one. i'm using profile /usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/x86/2004.2/gcc34/2.6 and ufed-0.35-r1
Comment 4 Harald van Dijk (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-11-06 10:51:01 UTC
IRT comment #2:
Is the output from emerge --info identical after running ufed and saving (removing the mozilla and ssl flags from your make.conf)? If the output is identical, the flags are indeed redundant, and there is no ufed bug here. If the output is not identical, can you show it?

Comment 5 Marcin Kryczek (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-11-06 16:27:57 UTC
argh - i've copied it twice with gnome enabled;/
here are the proper one with -gnome in make.conf:
USE="3dnow X aalib alsa apache2 arts avi bitmap-fonts crypt cups dvd encode f77 fam fbcon fla gd gif glut gphoto2 gpm gtk gtk2 imagemagick imlib imlib2 java javascript jikes jpeg lcms libwww mailwrapper mbox memlimit mikmod mmx motif mpeg mysql ncurses nls nocardbus nptl nvidia oggvorbis opengl oss pam pda pdflib perl png ppds python qt quicktime readline samba sasl sdl serial slang sse ssl tcltk tcpd tiff truetype userlocales v4l v4l2 videos vim-with-x wmf x86 xv xvid zlib"
Comment 6 Harald van Dijk (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-11-06 17:45:41 UTC
Ah, you're correct, ufed does have a bug. Its support for stacked profiles is incomplete. However, this isn't related to the original bug report; the reporter isn't even using a stacked profile. I believe it would be better if you would report this as a new bug.
Comment 7 Marcin Kryczek (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-11-07 05:18:44 UTC
ok. i've created new bug #70345 and add you to CC (you're propably intereted in it anyway), so this one can be mark as solved
Comment 8 Marius Mauch (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-12-08 19:55:11 UTC
No feedback from reporter, closing this for now.
