Why are we winking after checking an md5, or noting that we have an already downloaded file? ;-) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: I don't think youngsters like the fact that their computer will always wink at them, multiple times, when they are installing software. In other words, imho it's not all that professional to have ";-)" at the end of a notice. Yes, I know this is a silly bug.
It's friendly and simple to follow. Sometimes silly things are the easiest way to go. Obviously a smiley doesn't mean it is bad. >>> portage-2.0.51-r2.tar.bz2 size ;-) >>> portage-2.0.51-r2.tar.bz2 MD5 ;-)
when dealing with packages that have very large (and multiple) files, it's nice to get *some* feedback as portage is running if the output wasnt there, emerge would look like it was just sitting around doing nothing same reason we have a spinner ... users like to have feedback that tells them portage didnt hang as for the smileys, i dont really know of any other universally accepted symbol that means 'hey, everything is gonna be alright' i think nick agrees with me on these so i'll shut the bug ;)
