Description Stefan Behte (RETIRED) gentoo-dev Security 2004-11-02 16:47:33 UTC
After upgrading from x11-wm/fluxbox-0.9.10-r3 to x11-wm/fluxbox-0.9.10-r4 the menu does not show text anymore, but it is possible to click and navigate.
Very strange! I used the same ~/.fluxbox/menu both times and have no idea what could be wrong. First I upgraded to fluxbox-0.9.10-r4, then the text in the menu wasn't there anymore, so I downgraded to fluxbox-0.9.10-r3 again, which works fine again! So it's definitively not an x-server error or something other than fluxbox itself.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge fluxbox-0.9.10-r4
2. umerge fluxbox-0.9.10-r4
3. emerge fluxbox-0.9.10-r3

Actual Results:
I saw the menu again :)

Expected Results:
Show the menu after I emerged fluxbox-0.9.10-r4!

Please try to reproduce this on a system built with sane CFLAGS.
Comment 2 Stefan Behte (RETIRED) gentoo-dev Security 2004-11-03 11:34:40 UTC
I couldn't try it with the machine I described today, so I tried with my k6/3-380 Laptop, with CFLAGS="-march=k6-3 -O3"
Exactly the same results! No text in the menu after upgrading to x11-wm/fluxbox-0.9.10-r4.
Comment 3 Ciaran McCreesh 2004-11-03 13:06:54 UTC
Ok, what fonts and what locale?
Comment 4 huepfmonster 2004-11-03 23:24:59 UTC
I have the same Problem with German locales and the standard fonts (I have the artwiz fonts installed, but I'm not sure if the system uses them by default, did'nt change anything in the configuration files), but with r3 and not r4. On my laptop which runs also r3, I do not have such problems. Plus, when the fonts disappear and I navigate into the Style menu "blindly" and select a different style, the fonts show up again (but not with all styles though). When I then go back to the old style that had no fonts at startup, fonts are there again (but this is not the case with every style either).
Comment 5 Ciaran McCreesh 2004-11-04 00:09:33 UTC
Do they work if you switch to using media-fonts/artwiz-aleczapka-en instead? There's a problem with the encoding in media-fonts/artwiz-fonts.
Comment 6 Peter Beutner 2004-11-07 20:01:20 UTC
same problem here with the fluxbox-0.9.10-r4. However it only occurs under certain condition: a) antialiasing has to be disabled in fluxbox and b) it only happens with some locale settings.
setting LANG to POSIX, oder de_DE and everything works fine, but when using de_DE@euro oder de_AT@euro text is missing in fluxbox.

Comment 7 Ciaran McCreesh 2004-11-10 09:56:02 UTC
Bleh. Please take any fluxbox NLS / font screwiness upstream. I'm not getting anything useful from them...
