Description François Valenduc 2019-10-23 11:29:41 UTC
I usually use MAKEOPTS="-j9 -l7" and firefox 70 fails to compile with such options. I retried with MAKEOPTS="-j1" to check for the first error but then it compiled fine.

Reproducible: Always

You ran out of memory. Using parallel make means more processes use more memory concurrently, so in order to calculate a useful number of make jobs for your system, you need to give each of those jobs approximately two gigabytes of memory, so you divide the total RAM by two gigabytes to obtain the maximum number of make jobs the system could run concurrently.
Comment 4 François Valenduc 2019-10-23 11:45:24 UTC
I should have found myself... Anyway, thanks for the explanation. Usually, all programs compile fine with -j9 -l7, with some exceptions. I have 12 Gb of RAM. Until know, it always worked for firefox. I guess I will need to change it to something like "-j6 -l4".

Or, obviously, install more RAM. ;-)
