The printers are missing in the CGI output because the applciation crashes internally on those "custom" fields. The File \"/usr/libexec/cups/filter/hpcups\" not available: No such file or directory error was related to me not having installing net-print/hplip-3.19.8, I installed it and this error is gone. What remains to be solved is the crash reported here which is caused by printer definitions being broken (and unaccessible to the CGI application doing the lookup) when the PPD files contain unsupported variables.
I can confirm this with my brother mfc465cn. After the update to "net-print/cups-2.2.12", "net-print/cups-filters-1.25.11" printing was not possible anymore.
