I miss int he scientific application list R-package,
which is a statistical analysis package. See
http://www.r-project.org/ for details.

I had to go to bugzilla to figure out again the name of the package. :( Would someone change the description of the package to contain words "r-project" and "R-package"? Both?

I think the package's description is fine. Using "emerge -S stat" will show all  Gentoo packages more or less related to statistical analysis anyway.
