The first time I followed the "Gentoo Printing Guide" all worked well. Nevertheless, one time during 'emerge -uD world", portage updated the hpijs package (I have a HP printer). After said update, cupsd (at boot) started to take a lot ot time to start (appear [ok] at boot). One time, it just completely hanged. I had to use the Live CD and remove cupsd from rc-update. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Have cups working in your linux box 2.Update hpijs via emerge world 3.Reboot, and experience cupdsd starting delays, culminating at hang Actual Results: On the first boots, cupsd started to take a long time to start. Then, It just hanged, and my linux wouldn't boot Expected Results: cupsd would start normally at boot, in a normal and fast way I searched through the forums, and tried some solutions. I deleted the "finished jobs" dir (some people said that was causing the lag) but it didn't work. One time, I completly erased some cups related dirs, re-emerged cups, foomatic and hpijs, and cupsd started to behave normaly. But on the next update of hpijs the same thing happened. This time, not remembering which dirs I had erased previously, but tried several combinations, I wasn't able to solve the problem. Tried various times to emerge unmerge cups, foomatic and hpijs, re-emerge them folloswing the "Cups Printing Guide" in the Gentoo website, but never having success. I really dont understand how these bugs are getting assigned to me. I have nothing to do with CUPS.
I'm having similar problems although hpijs is not installed. On a dual Opteron, cupsd consumes over 99% of one cpu when started. Given instructions I'm willing to make runs to aid in tracking down the problem. I suspect the problem has nothing to do with hpijs and is it appears to show up on more than one platform.
Sorry, I should have added output from emerge --info, it is now below. do you still have the problems?
yes I do...
please set loglevel to debug in your cupsd.conf, try to print, and post the log
