I have KDE 3.3.0 installed with NO kdearts installed at all. 

I'm emerging the latest superkaramba build from portage .33-r1 with -arts flag. The emerge stops with mcopidl not found and asks if I have arts installed. Here is a snippet of the following error.

checking for dcopidl... /usr/kde/3.3/bin/dcopidl
checking for dcopidl2cpp... /usr/kde/3.3/bin/dcopidl2cpp
checking for mcopidl... not found
configure: error: The important program mcopidl was not found!
Please check whether you installed aRts correctly.

Fixed in superkaramba 0.34 that is now stable on x86.

So please sync you portage tree and try it. probably it'll take some time to propagate to the rsync mirrors.
