The namesys webpage provides a patch for grub make it aware of reiser4: ftp://ftp.namesys.com/pub/reiser4progs/grub/ This version of grub works for me. I would like to see it in portage tree. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge grub 2. install grub on reiser4 partitions Actual Results: grub can't be installed as it can work with reiser4. Expected Results: It should be possible to install grub on reiser4 partitions.
Sorry, I'm not going to add reiser4 support to grub any time soon. It bloats the stage1_5 stuff too far on many systems, regardless of target file system, rendering them unbootable.

Why not make it conditional on USE="reiser4", for example?

110_all_grub-reiser4.patch I'm going to attach at this bug work on x86. It's tested and running here (sys-boot/grub-0.96-r3). It apply to sys-boot/grub-0.96-r3 and grub-0.97 (vanilla) . since it's already a certain time reiser4 is in mm kernels, and it will reach vanilla ones some time in the future may be a good idea to add it. vapier, added you after cat-ting the ChangeLog ;-)
Created attachment 71494 [details, diff] 110_all_grub-reiser4.patch patch, tested on x86 system , it can boot reiser4 and reiserfs filesystems (others untested).

Why isn't there an option to reopen this bug. It should be reopened since the fix is removed.
Now there is a option to reopen this bug, but apparently I'm not authorized to do so. Could I be authorized, please!
