Description Xu Weiping 2019-09-26 08:27:09 UTC
Generating initramfs fails at ERROR: extracting cpio for finalization. No more informations throw out. While running on kernel5.2.17 and 4.19.x has no problem, it only fails at kernel5.3.0 and kernel5.3.1.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.genkernel --install --no-mountboot --luks --lvm --no-gpg --udev --kernel-config="/usr/src/linux/.config" --busybox --no-compress-initramfs --all-ramdisk-modules --firmware initramfs

Can you attach your full genkernel.log, your genkernel.conf, and your kernel .config?

I'm not yet able to reproduce this.

I have one last idea before we pass this off to the maintainers-- can you edit line 1092 of /usr/share/genkernel/gen_initramfs.sh and remove "2> /dev/null" from that line so we can see stderr output, instead of hiding it?

Thanks

terminal_output.log

That is the terminal output that I remove the 2> /dev/null. The genkernel.log has no new information so I don't attach it again.
Comment 8 Xu Weiping 2019-09-26 16:28:49 UTC
For my system language is Chinese. I explain some words.
"已有更新或同样新的版本存在" means An update or the same version exists.
"函数 open 失败: 没有那个文件或目录" means Function open failed: no such file or directory.
These information are all appeared at the other success kernel build procedure, so that may not the interfering factors.
Comment 9 Ben Kohler gentoo-dev 2019-09-26 17:33:35 UTC
Could you temporarily set LC_MESSAGES=C so we can get english error output?

terminal_output_C.log

I add export LC_MESSAGES=C and get the english error messages.
