Description Kimmo Sundqvist 2004-10-29 04:06:48 UTC
In a freshly emerged Gnome 2.6.2-r1 with no previous versions before it I come to the desktop. I decide that I want to change desktop background color. I click on the box next to the drop-down menu that has "Solid Color" selected by default. Then, no matter which color I choose, nothing changes, not upon returning from the color picker to the "Desktop Background Preferences" window, but neither upon closing the "Desktop Background Preferences" window. Took me 3 tries to begin to wonder if the "No Wallpaper" should be selected instead of nothing.

I had to click on "No Wallpaper" on the Desktop Wallpaper list to make the color picker work.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Install Gnome 2.6.2 with koffice, abiword and ximian openoffice into a fresh Gentoo installation. I have no idea if only installing Gnome will do.
2.Try changing desktop background color.
3.

Actual Results:
See Details.

Expected Results:
The new desktop background color should have been applied instantly upon returning from the color
picker. Also the "No Wallpaper" should have been automatically selected either at that very moment or
when the "Desktop Background Preferences" window first came up.

Comment 1 foser (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-10-29 16:05:09 UTC
you can also have background colors on partial transparent wallpapers, thats why a bgcolor is 1 on 1 related to every single wallpaper.

it's maybe a design flaw, but not one we can do much about at this point.

i talked this over with the creator, he isn't convinced this is a real problem and as such i don't think we'll see this one resolved.

You could try and file it upstream (bugzilla.gnome.org), but I doubt it will have much success .

I agree that this single problem isn't worth much trouble. But the reason why I filed the bug in the first place was a fear that there might be a disconnect in some logic that could cause other similar problems. IMHO it might be worth fixing then.
