The "installed packages are masked" warning only warns about packages masked by package.mask, but it would be better if it also warned about packages masked by keywords. Note that keyword masks for installed packages are largely ignored by emerge since it was a common practice for users to temporarily override ACCEPT_KEYWORDS for on-off command, however --autounmask has been the preferred approach for a very long time.
